Camp Dogwood

Camp DogwoodCamp Dogwood is the pride and joy of the North Carolina Lions! Located on the shores of Beautiful Lake Norman, it is one of the finest such facilities in the world. The Lions of North Carolina own, fund and maintain the camp. The volunteers committee coordinates the volunteer efforts of Lions across the state. This results in significant saving of funds that can go to the program.

Camp Dogwood is a recreational facility serving the blind and visually impaired people of North Carolina. We operate a program during the summer with the campers participation in 6 day sessions. We offer a camping vacation experience utilizing our waterfront on Lake Norman in boating, swimming, fishing, skiing, and tubing along with activities in arts and crafts, horseback riding, night time programs and trips to the mall in Hickory and Super K-Mart.Camp Dogwood Campers

We employ 15 to 20 young people to live and work here during the summer with a staff ratio to campers of about one to four. In addition to staffing the various activities, our staff serves as sighted guides, assist in serving of meals and in any other capacity that will insure the accomplishment of our goal to provide a week of fun and fellowship for a segment of our society who cannot experience this type of program in any other facility. The average age of our campers is 58.

Funds from our annual Brighter Visions Drive go to help maintain Camp Dogwood as well as provide food and supplies for campers.

If you would like to go to Camp Dogwood but cannot afford the camp fee contact Shonda Davis at DSS 336 641-3348. If you qualify for assistance, she will contact a local Lion’s club about a possible scholarship.
