Since 1917, Lions have served the world’s population through hard work and commitment to make a difference in the lives of people everywhere. Chicago business leader Melvin Jones asked a simple and world changing question – what if people made a commitment to improving their communities? With 1.4 million members serving in more than 48,000 clubs in 207 countries and geographical areas, Lions Clubs International is the world’s largest service club organization.

Helen Keller in 1925 addressed the Lions Club International Convention at Cedar Point, Ohio and challenged Lions to become “knight of the blind. Restoring sight and prevention blindness on a global scale launched in 1990 known as SightFirst Program, Lions has raised more than US$351 million.

In 1920’s, 50’s and 60’s, Lions became international with club(s) in Canada, Mexico, Europe, Asia and Africa. In 1945 we were first nongovernmental organizations invited to assist I drafting of United Nations charter. An annual Lions Day is hosted with United Nations.
